Humane Society of Catawba County
has a Mission:
To make our community a better place by serving as an advocate for companion animals.  Our vision for the future is that no adoptable animal will be euthanized in Catawba County, and that animal cruelty and inhumane treatment of animals will cease to exist.
Our beautiful facility features
the Pat Anderson Center for Animal Adoption and Humane Education Center
as well as Foothills Spay/Neuter Clinic.

HSCC PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Rescue

Thousands of dogs and cats are destroyed at Catawba County Animal Control each year.
Many of these animals were adoptable and would have made loving pets.
HSCC’s Animal Services is permitted to enter the county shelter and rescue adoptable animals.
A temperament test of each animal is a priority.
.After rescue, all cats and dogs are examined, de-wormed, tested, vaccinated and spayed or neutered.

HSCC also takes in animals from residents of Catawba County.
There is an Owner Surrender Procedure for animals needing new homes for various reasons.
We request a $50 donation at surrender.

County Law and Regulations require strays to be reported to Catawba County Animal Control for owners to reclaim.

Adoptions

The public is welcome to come to our kennels during our operating hours to meet and apply to adopt a pet.
Since this is the second chance for these animals to find a "forever home", an adoption application must be completed.
An adoption interview with our trained Adoption Counselors will take place prior to any animal being approved for adoption.  HSCC believes in matching families with the animal(s) that fits their lifestyle.

Adoptions Include:
Spay or Neuter
Vaccinations current
De-worming
Heartworm test (dogs) & receiving heartworm preventative
Feline Leukemia Test (cats)
Micro chipping
Free vet exam certificate
A Friend for Life!

Spay and Neuter
Irresponsible and uncontrolled breeding of dogs and cats causes overpopulation.
Only by preventing the number of litters that are produced
can we permanently reduce the pain and suffering that unwanted animals endure.

All HSCC animals available for adoption have been sterilized in our on-site Foothills Spay/Neuter Clinic.
This policy sets an example for the community and makes pets better suited for adoption.

Low cost sterilization is offered to any pet owner requesting this service.
Our veterinarians perform surgeries 4 days per week
Appointments and prepayment may be made over the phone or in person.
Proof of a Rabies vaccination is required.
Other vaccines, testing and microchipping are also offered as part of the spay/neuter appointment.

Micro chipping

We now offer pet micro chipping for $20.  Bring your pets to our facility Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. and we will microchip your animals and register them for you. There is no maintenance fee to keep your pets registered.
NEW for 2012 - Microchip Mondays - 1/2 price every Monday - only $10
The microchip is a tiny computer chip which has an identification number programmed into it and is encapsulated within a biocompatible material. The whole device is small enough to fit inside a hypodermic needle and can be simply injected under the skin of our pets, where it will stay for the life of the animal. This provides a permanent, positive identification which cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed - a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect your pet if lost.

“Well Pet” Vaccine Clinics

Offered on the first Friday AND the third Saturday of each month from 12-5:30 p.m.
Your pets must have an appointment which you can schedule by calling: (828) 464-8878.
Healthy pets may attend these clinics to receive annual vaccines and testing.

Pet Food Pantry

Dog and Cat food is given to pet owners showing proof of need to assist in the feeding of their pets. The Pantry is usually open M-F during the second week of each month. Our goal is to keep these pets in their loving homes instead of surrendering them to shelters. All the food is donated by local companies and stores or by individuals wanting to help.

Guardian Angel

"Get Your Wings" by sponsoring a homeless animal from rescue to adoption.
Caring individuals can have a positive impact on the life of a Humane Society of Catawba County animal.
What a wonderful gift!

With your sponsorship gift of just $225, you or the giftee will receive:
  • A Guardian Angel Certificate from HSCC and your sponsored animal
  • your sponsorship details permanently displayed on the Guardian Angel appreciation board
  • a card from the animal when it is adopted into its "forever home"
  • the satisfaction of knowing you are helping homeless animals in your community
Please come visit your sponsored pet at our shelter!

Often people who care about the plight of homeless animals are overwhelmed by the enormity of the problem.
It’s true, that no one person can save them all; but if you can make a difference in the life of even one animal, let alone hundreds each year, then your gift is invaluable.
